Every February 14, across the United States and other places around the world people celebrate Love! But, how did this start? Well… nobody can say exactly how, there are a few stories regarding this subject, some are quite disturbing and others very romantic. Since I love to see the glass half full I’ll stick to the romantic one.
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
I guess it’s not a very happy story (re: Priest who ended being killed) but it’s a very romantic one and made the priest a saint and a very famous person too. So, I decided to stick to that story and celebrate Love on this day! So… what to do and what to wear on Valentine’s Day? Here are some last minute ideas on what to do for Valentine’s day…
5 Things you can do to Celebrate Valentine’s day!
1. – Dinner at Home
I know this doesn’t sound super exciting for many people and if you are like me, (i.e. I use my oven as storage) this could be very romantic and different, you order something in or you can cook your favorite dish or your significant other’s favorite dish. The point is to make it different than other dinners, get candles, a nice bottle of wine, delicious desserts and Voila!
2.- Picnic at the Park
I love picnics. I think they’re very romantic and underestimated. You can find a park nearby, beach or rooftop. Get some wine, bread and cheese and please don’t forget about dessert! If you live in LA, I highly recommend Malibu Wines, You will love this place! It has picnic tables, music and wine, all you have to do is to bring your food. Seriously, it can’t get easier than that 😉
And since mentioned before… Dessert is very important on this celebration!
3.- Movie Night
Often times, movie theaters screen old romantic movies on that day – be sure to get some tickets and enjoy the night. Last time I did that, the movie being screened was “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. It was super romantic! Here is a list of movies screening in LA around this time and if for some reason you decided to stay at home, here is a list for you…

4.- Couples Massages
I mean… who doesn’t love that? Fortunately, many spas offer different packages around this day.
5.- Comedy Club
Everyone enjoys a good laugh, right? Fortunately for all the “Angelinos” there are plenty of cool places to check out in LA I would say one of my favorites is The Hollywood Improv, I don’t remember laughing as hard anywhere else. For this Valentine’s day 2018 they are offering a few shows. You can find more info HERE
Ahhh and if like me, you happened to be single, don’t let that stop you from celebrating it by yourself or your friends! Remember is about celebrating love! Self-
love, friendship love, or romantic love 😀
Last suggestion… If you have a significant other that you are intimated with, don’t forget about lingerie 😉 what brings me to…
What to wear on Valentine’s Day
Well I guess it all depends on what you are doing but for sure I love to wear something red and/or white. If what you have in mind is dinner, or movie night you can wear something like this dress. Flare sleeves have been super trendy in the last couple of years but this Spring 2018, they are becoming an essential piece you need to have in your closet.
Statement sleeves are so chic, you can wear them during the day and at night, which is what I love about this dress, beside the fact that it’s pretty cozy and made of good material, it’s very comfortable and you can easily dress it up or down, depending on you occasion. I found this at Anthropology (not too long ago) but I couldn’t find the link to it 🙁 but you can find some similar in the link below…
If wearing red on Valentine’s Day it’s too Cliché for you, I have the perfect solution… wear white! Striped dresses are coming very strongly for this Spring 2018. Don’t be afraid to experiment with belts and accessories to make it your own, for this day I decided to take off the belt that came with the dress and instead I wore my favorite vintage silk scarf as a belt.
Here are some options for you!
